Job Seeker Community

THE PROJECT

To create a career coach moderated community for job seekers to get guidance and feedback during their job search journey.

THe problem

For some the job search process can be a daunting and lonely process. People lack confidence in the throws of resume creation and job search challenges and would benefit from inexpensive access to a career coach and community support.

How might we help job seekers secure low-cost access to resume and career coaches, so that they receive the professional advice that builds confidence in their job search?
— the design challenge

RESEARCH

I conducted qualitative customer interviews and quantitative research and presented those findings to the product team in the form of personas and insight reports.

A study of our audience from what we know about our users from site analytics, video interviews, and survey data led to these personas.

IDEATION

I led product 24-person feature brainstorms with our dev team in India, product team in Puerto Rico and design team in San Francisco.

After review of all the ideas and insights from research the team achieved consensus that we should pursue a job seeker community moderated by resume and career coaches.

For the ideation process I led a collaboration among the India, Puerto Rico, and San Francisco product teams.

The design process of being comfortable with alternating periods of uncertainty and certainty, aka the double diamond approach, often works well.

DESIGN

I designed the career coach moderated forum largely from scratch using an open source platform.

A key part of the UI was making it a key feature of the users product dashboard (post-conversion).

I devised a community engagement system using gamification methods of badges and status to enhance participation.

I conducted several rounds of remote usability testing post-development to ensure resonance with our audience.

AN Example of Community EXCHANGES

Hello all, I am getting out of the Army soon, after almost a decade. Looking to see what I should change and/or revise to create a more appealing resume. Thank you.
