ABC Mouse

As part of the ABCmouse product team at Age of Learning, I was recruited by the Creative Director to lead design for the Assessment Center, a new product. This system helped parents prevent the “summer slump” when kids often fall behind without active learning.

Helping parents keep learning on track

I conducted in-classroom observation, and weekly prototype play-testing with children to ensure the experience was age-appropriate and engaging. Collaborating with educators and subject-matter experts, I designed adaptive assessments that personalized each child’s learning path. When a child scored below 80%, the system recommended targeted games and lessons to strengthen those skills.

To keep young learners motivated, an animated avatar advanced across a progress bar, celebrated achievements with dances and stars, and received praise from the ABCmouse mascot.

Results

The Assessment Center doubled its first-year revenue projections, while completion rates climbed from 41% to 90% within six months. Parents reported greater confidence in their children’s school readiness, and the feature significantly increased time on site and subscription engagement across the platform.
